How can Niacinamide Help Oily Skin?

Niacinamide can help oily skin in 3 different ways. These ways are explained below:

ONE

Regulates oil production

Oil glands in oily skin types produce excess oil.

Niacinamide regulates oil production. It reduces the excess amount of oil produced.

Less excess oil means less oil on the skin’s surface.

Less oil means reduced breakouts – because excess oil goes and clogs the skin’s pores and results in breakouts on the skin.

(pores are bowl-like structures found in deeper layers of skin)

TWO

Reduces pore size.

Excess oil clogs pores. When this happens, pores swell up.

Pores are found in the deeper layers of the skin. They open up as tiny holes on the surface of the skin. These tiny holes are the pore endings.

When pores swell up due to excess oil, the holes on the skin’s surface (pore endings) appear larger. The larger appearance of these tiny holes might not be aesthetically pleasing for some.

Niacinamide helps regulate oil production, reducing excess oil production. This means no clogging and, hence, no swelling of pores; no swelling means the tiny holes don’t appear larger than they should.

THREE

It keeps skin hydrated and reduces breakouts.

The top layer of skin acts as a shield.

The top layer prevents water from evaporating from the skin and thus keeps the skin hydrated.

The top layer protects the skin from attacks from environmental nasties – thus preventing breakouts in the skin from these attacks.

For the top layer of skin to be an effective shield, all the substances that make up the top layer must be in the correct quantity and quality.

Ceramides are a substance in the top layer—they are vital in helping the top layer be an effective shield.

Niacinamide helps produce ceramides.

More ceramides means the top layer of skin becomes a better shield.

This shield, in turn, keeps the skin hydrated with fewer breakouts.
