Whitening Capsule Cream Review

The ingredient, glycerin, adds additional hydration to the skin

Neolistea aciculate stem extract and lotus stem extract can brighten the skin to some extent.
The ingredient, niacinamide, is doing the most work in the product when it comes to brightening.

Ingredients like mica and titanium dioxide brighten the skin – but only for as long as they are on the skin.

The product has a lot of ingredients that can leave the skin irritated and dry in the long run.

The brightening ingredients like mica and titanium oxide are just adding a temporary effect.

The product’s ingredients

Description of what the ingredients in Whitening Capsule Cream do
Ingredient 1 – Purified water
Function: Solvent

A solvent helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product. Dissolved ingredients can spread and penetrate better. The water is purified, so it is free of toxins and pollutants.
Ingredient 2 – Glycerin
Function: Humectant

Glycerin is a water magnet. It attracts water. It is like a sponge. When applied on the skin’s surface, it draws water vapour from the atmosphere to the skin.

Because of its low molecular weight, glycerin can get to the deeper layers of the skin and add moisture to the deeper layer of the skin as well.

Glycerin hydrates and plumps up the skin. Glycerin is a powerful humectant.
Ingredient 3 – C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate
Function: Emollient, Thickener

Emollients soften and smoothen the skin. Cells in the top layer of the skin are arranged like bricks. Ingredients that are in between these cells help the skin stay in good condition.

These ingredients are usually not at an optimum level and this results in roughness on the skin.

Emollients fill in the gaps in-between the cells. This makes the skin soft and smooth. Emollients form a thin layer on top of the skin and prevent the moisture underneath it from evaporating into the atmosphere. Thus they keep the skin hydrated.

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate is also used as a thickening agent in products.
Ingredient 4 – Neolistea aciculate stem extract
Function: Antioxidant

Free radicals form on the skin due to exposure to environmental nasties, pollution, and UV rays. These free radicals are very nasty. They age the skin by killing good cells, and they also give the skin a dull appearance. An antioxidant fights free radicals and gets rid of them.

Neolistea aciculate is a small evergreen tree. We cannot generalise the benefits of plant extracts as their actual benefit depends on where the plant was grown, water and soil quality, and the method used to extract the ingredient form the plant.
Ingredient 5 – Lotus root extract
Function: Antioxidant

Free radicals form on the skin due to exposure to environmental nasties, pollution, and UV rays. These free radicals are very nasty. They age the skin by killing good cells, and they also give the skin a dull appearance.

An antioxidant fights free radicals and gets rid of them. We cannot generalise the benefits of plant extracts as their actual benefit depends on where the plant was grown, water and soil quality, and the method used to extract the ingredient was extracted.
Ingredient 6 – Dimethicone
Function: Emollient, Texture enhancer

Emollients soften and smoothen the skin.

Emollients form a thin layer on top of the skin and prevent the moisture underneath it from evaporating into the atmosphere. Thus they keep the skin hydrated. Dimethicone also adds a slippery and silky feel to the product. Lubricates and provides shine.

Improves the texture of the product.
Ingredient 7 – Niacinamide
Function: Strengthens skin barrier function, Anti-pigment

The top layer of our skin acts as a barrier. A strong barrier keeps skin hydrated and reduces breakouts on the skin. Ceramides are one the components of the top layer of skin – and they play an important role in the barrier function. Niacinamide helps in the production of ceramides.

Niacinamide reduces the appearance of dark spots, dark patches on the skin, and uneven skin tone. By doing this, it brightens up the skin. Helps in the synthesis of collagen and glycosaminoglycans. Both these ingredients reduce fine lines and keep the skin supple and plump.
Ingredient 8 – Cetearyl alcohol
Function: Emollient, Emulsifier

Emollients soften and smoothen the skin. An emulsifier keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together. Without it, the product’s ingredients will not mix. They will separate.

Some alcohols in skincare are not good for the skin. Cetearyl alcohol is a good type of alcohol for the skin.
Ingredient 9 – Ethanol
Function: Solvent

A solvent helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product. Dissolved ingredients can spread and penetrate better.

Ethanol can cause dryness and irritation on the skin.
Ingredient 10 – Titanium dioxide
Function: Whitener

It reduces the dullness of the skin and whitens and brightens the skin. It is effective only for as long as it is on the skin.
A quick note on other ingredients
These ingredients are all further down the ingredient list. So the amount used in the product is less. The amount of an ingredient used reduces as we go down the ingredient list. And most functional ingredients when used at lower rates, the effect they have won’t be the same as if they were used at higher rates.

It is important to remember that in the majority of skincare products when it comes to how much the ingredients help the skin, only the first 5 ingredients matter the most. After about the 7th ingredient, how much the ingredient can help the skin, reduces significantly.

It has lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, lemon peel oil, lime oil, scented geranium flower oil, rosemary oil, juniper oil, and chamomile oil. These oils can all be very irritating to the skin. Irritated skin will lead to inflammation of the skin. Inflammation will eventually lead to dark spots and uneven skin tone. It has mica. Mica adds a temporary brightening effect on the skin.
